Seagull Recommends
🎶Gigs: 'Zeitgeist-capturing polymath pioneers' Nova Twins will be at Chalk tomorrow (tickets); also tomorrow is Frank and Beans, an Irish, thunderous dance-punk duo, at The Pipeline (tickets); on Tuesday there's She Drew The Gun at Komedia, music and poetry from a singer-songwriter who uses punk-infused psych-pop as a vehicle for exposing injustice and for advocating for a fairer and more tolerant society (tickets); 'unapologetically honest & outlandish' Slowthai will be doing a Q&A and signing at Resident Music on Thursday, with songs from his latest album (tickets).
🤣Comedy: Komedia Comedy Club has an International Woman's Day special tonight: MC'd by Thanyia Moore, expect cartoon dilfs and absurd comedy from Sharon Wanjohi (A Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist and Funny Women Stage Award Finalist), very funny Irish woman and creator of #covideoparty Alison Spittle, and dark comedy specialist Bethany Black (fun fact: she is the first trans actor to play a trans character in a starring role on British TV—Doctor Who! (tickets)).
Brighton Fringe: Team Seagull were lucky enough to go to the Brighton Fringe launch at Ironworks Studios on Wednesday evening, where we were delighted by entertainment from Lachlan Werner, Selena Mersey, and Paul Diello's The Great Eighties and Nineties One Hit Wonder Songbook. We had the best time, and are delighted to inform you that tickets for Fringe are available now, with new drops every Wednesday.
📚Book launch: Tomorrow at The Queery is the book launch of Bisexual Men Exist by Vaneet Mehta. From 7pm, join Vaneet to learn about his viral #BisexualMenExist campaign, how he combats the hate and scepticism m-spec (multi-gender attracted spectrum) men encounter, and hear personal stories from others in the community to help validate and uplift other bisexual men (tickets).
🏃Marathon: Today is the last day to sign up for the marathon!
🛍️Market: The Brighton Open Market Vegan Market is moving to Saturdays! From tomorrow, the Vegan Market will be on the first Saturday of each month. Expect fried 'egg' baps from Plant the Seed, delicious dulce de leche from Vegan Crazy, long-time Seagull favourites Be Saucy (the truffle mayo is next level), incredible banoffee tarts (and other patisserie and cake) from Selene Sweet Cakes, excellent sauerkraut from Savvykraut... There's a lot of amazing food. And if you're in the market for non-food stuff, there's always a rotating cast of traders with skincare, make-up, illustrations, ceramics, jewellery, and more!
☕️Coffee: The Ledward Centre in Jubilee Street is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, enjoy some coffee and get some work done, enjoy a book in their library or Just Chill. If you're struggling for cash, they have a Pay It Forward scheme you can use—if you're feeling flush, why not contribute to it if you can?
🥯Bagel: Our resident Xav tried a ✨Brand New Bagel✨ from our beloved Bagelman! Here's what he had to say:
Properly delightful bagel! Maybe not quite authentic to the regular Reuben as the seitan is a little thickly sliced but I won't call the bagel police if you won't. Maybe a little sauerkraut on there next time???
