Seagull Recommends 09/12

Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! It's well cold, but we've got some piping hot recommendations for you and most of them are inside, aren't you lucky.

🎶Gigs: Bel Cobain (no relation) is a London-based singer-songwriter merging jazz, r&b and rap with a peaceful and self-reflective slant. She'll be at the Green Door Store tonight (tickets); electronic artist Ross from Friends will be at Chalk tomorrow—almost lo-fi in his music, it has a very hazy, laidback feel to it, and his shows are livened up with a saxophonist, what more could you want (tickets);

🤣Comedy: Tomorrow at The Round Georges is a Christmas Special comedy night! Starting at 8pm, they'll have comedy from award-winner Robyn Perkins, a comedian 'who likes tom investigate life', Graeme Collard, who mixes observations with one-liners, and Katherine Kenway, a regular on the comedy circuit with her jokes on being a lazy mum (tickets).

🎄Christmas: The canopy lights are finally up properly at the Clock Tower, and they really do look beautiful this year! They make for some really lovely photos of the city. There's also a free festive day at the Brighton Dome celebrating its past, present and future tomorrow (tickets). Also tomorrow from 11am to 5pm there's a Christmas market and artist open house at St Ann's Well Gardens, with more than 40 artists and crafters, live entertainment, festive food and drink and Santa! If you're further to the west of the city, there's a Christmas market in Shoreham's East Street, with a mixture of farmer and artisan stallholders. More than enough places to finish your Christmas shopping!

🎨Art: Starting today and running until Sunday is the New England House Open Studios—New England House resident artists and makers, together with selected guest exhibitors, are inviting the public to their vibrant and creative studios. Running from 11am to 6pm every day, you'll find ceramics, jewellery, prints, paintings, screen prints, wood cuts, and much more. Entry is free!

☕️Brunch: Neighbourhood, on Gloucester Road, is a wonderful spot for a coffee and vegan bites to eat—and as much of their food as possible is locally supplied. We'd strongly recommend their Neighbourhood Breakfast.

🍱Dinner: The Vurger Co, on Brighton Place, is a smashing place for some vegan junk food. We'd suggest the Buffalo Vurger with tater tots and a strawberry milkshake (sadly their much-loved Jammie Dodger milkshake is not currently available, despite our technical director having emailed Vurger head office to plead for its return).

🍻Pint: The Mucky Duck, on Manchester Street, just down the road from the St James' Tavern, if you're looking for a drink after striking. A cozy pub with a cute garden and nice whiskey glasses 🥃
