Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! This week we've got early club nights, satirical comedy, bedroom pop and more. If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!

Seagull Recommends

🎶Gigs: Power pop punk father and daughter duo Voodoo Radio crashed onto the scene two years ago with more energy than you can shake a stick at and they'll headlining The Pipline tonight—make sure you've checked out their debut album Pop Pills beforehand so you're up to date on their feisty punk tunes (tickets); 'heartbreak indie rock pop' singer Jordana is only 22, and yet she's an astonishingly good producer, musician (she played every instrument on her new album, Face The Wall), and her confessional bedroom pop is so irresistibly poignant you can't help but be gripped by it, you must go and see her tomorrow at The Green Door Store (tickets); Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt is much more than Ed Sheeran's ex, she's an exceptionally good singer in her own right and her third album, Älskar, highly anticipated after her sophomore came out eight years ago, shows a move into electronic pop that is delightful to see—she'll be at Chalk on Monday (tickets);

🪩Club: Have you ever wished club nights started at say, 7pm, and ended at midnight rather than starting at midnight and continuing until 5am? You're in luck, because Annie Mac feels the same way and she's bringing her Before Midnight club night to Chalk next Friday. We're letting you know early because this is definitely going to sell out (tickets).

🌍Documentary: This Sunday, Komedia is showing Father Earth, a documentary about one man’s attempt to help save the planet by converting a derelict church on the Orkney Isles into an eco friendly recording studio (tickets).

🎭Theatre: An Inspector Calls returns to The Theatre Royal, one of the most highly reviewed thrillers of all time. The story begins when Inspector Goole arrives unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home, interrupting their peaceful dinner party with his investigations into the death of a young woman (tickets).

🤣Comedy: Andy Zaltzman, host of The News Quiz (Radio 4) and satirical podcast The Bugle is bringing his interactive stand-up show to Brighton next week! He invites audience members to submit topics, issues and miscellaneous gripes ahead of the show for him to satirise—everything from the biggest political stories of the day to pedantic personal peeves (tickets).

🚩Organising meeting: The Queery in George Street is hosting an organising meeting for the Brighton chapter of Food Not Bombs, a mutual aid collective focused on delivering free vegetarian and vegan meals to the hungry as a form of non-violent direct action and solidarity. The meeting is on Wednesday (16th) from 5-7pm.

🛒Shop: Perennial Hove favourite Taj is opening a new shop in London Road, which is soft launching tomorrow! The Seagull is very glad their excellent samosas will now be a short walk (rather than a long bus journey) from Seagull Towers.

🍱Brunch: Wai Kika Moo Kau on Kensington Gardens, small veggie/vegan eatery with a good lunch menu and plenty of cakes too. Their soup of the day is almost invariably delivious and their strawberry hot chocolate tastes like one of the strawberry sweets you get in tins of Quality Street; if that doesn't sell you I don't know what will.

🍺Pint: The Basketmakers' Arms is one of the cosiest and most charming pubs in Brighton. Find yourself a table against the wall and have a look at the messages in the tins attached to the wall and maybe add one of your own! If they still have it on tap, we'd recommend the YellowHammer Carnival cider (drink responsibly).
