Seagull Recommends 16/02
Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! Sorry it's a day late, we just had too much good stuff to squeeze in. This week we've got arm knitting, cow art, and hunt saboteur pancakes, plus a very special event at The Park Crescent. Enjoy!
If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!
Seagull Recommends
🎶Gigs: I nearly described this band as 'relative newcomers', but they formed in 2017 and now it's 2024, I'm just stuck in 2018 it seems: Yin Yin, one of the most interesting groups to come out of Holland, are at Patterns tomorrow. Using South East Asian music from the 60s and 70s as a main inspiration, whilst also bringing their individual musical backgrounds and interests to the table, their songs span across world music, electronic, disco and funk (tickets); Meadow Meadow might seem familiar, and that's because it's the band of Spring King's former guitarist and bassist—they're at The Prince Albert tomorrow night, we highly recommend you go (tickets); Dutch singer-songwriter Pip Blom is at Chalk on Tuesday, having pivoted from indie-rock to delightfully bright synth-pop (tickets).
🤣Comedy: The Branding Needs Work, a night of comedians trying new material, is at the Caxton Arms on Thursday from 7:30 (tickets (free)).
🧶Knitting: An arm knitting blanket workshop is being held at Rockwater Hove on Tuesday. From 6:30pm to 8:45pm, learn everything you need to make your own blanket using your arms as needles (tickets).
🎨Collage Club: A perennial Seagull favourite, Cult Milk's Collage Club returns to The Hope and Ruin this Tuesday. Drop in from 6pm to 9pm, bring some magazines to donate if you can, and unwind and have fun while making a lovely collage. Or a terrifying collage. Up to you, really. Beer prizes available, and entry is free!
🐮Art: Moo: When the Cows come Home is an exhibition at Hove Museum of Creativity, featuring rarely seen paintings from Brighton & Hove Museums Collection in which cows are the star attraction. Timelessly captured in meadows and paddocks the viewer is invited to enter a landscape that promises a glimpse of spring after winter’s dark months. But is everything as idyllic as it seems? Free admission!
🍱Food: Brighton Hunt Saboteurs are hosting a pancake fundraiser today at The Cowley Club. All the pancakes are vegan, and hunt saboteurs will be there to talk to anyone interested in finding out about what they do. On from midday to 4pm!
🍻Drink: The Park Crescent has an all-day charity event on today, to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which has supported landlady Maddison throughout her life. Beats2Beat starts at midday today! Free entry, donations welcomed.
