Seagull Recommends 26/08

🎶Gigs: Brighton-born house music producer, singer and DJ Lizzie Curious returns to Coalition this Sunday as part of Rave City (tickets); the incomporable pop princess Charli XCX is headlining Concorde 2 on Wednesday (tickets); and the wonderfully confessional, nuanced, indie-rock Soccer Mommy aka Sophie Allison is at Chalk on Thursday (hopefully your editor will be too (tickets)).

🎭Theatre: Tonight at the Theatre Royal, expert forensics lecturer Jennifer Rees is discussing the psychology of serial killers: how they're classified, common myths, and asking how common are homicidal fantasies. One night only, tickets here.

🐥Duck fayre: The Patcham Duck Fayre returns! After a lot of fuss about one returning in Mid Sussex back in 2019, our editor was disappointed to learn it's actually nothing to do with ducks—it's basically a village fête. Still, probably fun without them (should have some ducks though); it'll be at Patcham School’s playing fields from 11am-4.30pm this Sunday. There's going to be a model railway exhibition, including a working layout of the Volk's!!

🚩Picket line: In solidarity with the Royal Mail strikes, a picket line will run today from 5am to 12pm at the North Road Royal Mail Depot. The Communication Workers' Union have called the biggest strike of the summer so far, with 115,000 postal workers out on strike across 4 days in the next month.

🍱Food and drink: Around the corner from St Peter's Church is Brighton’s best Indian restaurant, Planet India. The Seagull might be biased as we go there so much we’re on first-name terms with the owner, and they’re up against stiff competition in terms of the food itself, but their charming decor (family photos) and excellent music (80s-00s R&B and pop) put it over the top for us. We’d recommend the pappads, ketchoris, bhajis, pani puri and masoor dal, washed down with a Thums Up!
