Seagull Recommends 27/10
Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! We're glad you made it here when today is such a big day in New Music Friday world: 1989 (TV) and Fizz's debut album?! We loved coming across them at The Great Escape, and we'll be bumping The Secret To Life on repeat. That is, when we're not listening to spooked-up songs at our Halloween parties this weekend. How does one 'spook up' a song, you ask? That's for the playlist makers to know and us to always wonder. Enjoy reliving 2014 with Taylor Swift this Halloween, and have a spooktacular time!
If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!

🎶Gigs: Brighton locals The Wytches are at Green Door Store tomorrow, supported by King Nun (we love them!). Their latest album, Three Mile Ditch, is 'an explosive collection of 10 tracks that weaves seamlessly between gut-wobbling monster riffs, swampy rock, slick surf, and finely tuned song craft'. They're very good, and you can get tickets here!
🎼Orchestra: London Philharmonic Orchestra are coming back to the Brighton Dome next week for Tchaikovsky’s Fourth. We all know that the fireworks night to be at is Preston Park on Wednesday, so you might as well get dressed up and go and listen to a very talented orchestra playing some beautiful music. Imagine fireworks going off on stage, with fanfares and super talented violinist and violist ‘showing off’ on stage!
🛍️Market: Tomorrow there's a Halloween market in Circus Street Marketplace, a spoooooky day full of creativity, music, food and fun! There's an artisan market with handmade crafts, small batch food, art, and pottery, a competition for best Halloween costume, free autumn rustic wreath making, pottery wheel demonstrations and workshops, seasonal drinks, and lots more. And it's all free, running from 11am to 4pm!
🍱Food: Sometimes you just need to pop to Wagamama and enjoy a hot pot, and that's exactly what our deputy editor Owen did. They said:
had wagas and the hot pot with tteokbokki was excellent. oooh man it was perfectly spicy, such a good kick, but warm and cosy, the tteokbokki had just the right gently chewy texture to make it feel substantial, lots of veg + tofu coated in the broth, felt very homely + comforting. it's new on the menu I think!!!
☕️Coffee: Our editor recently visited White Cloud Coffee in Circus Street and had the most delightfully cosy time. Excellent coffee, good seats for people (and dog) watching, friendly staff. Highly recommend!
