Seagull Recommends 29/09

Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! This week we've got an EDM festival at Stanmer Park, the last weekend for the Volk's Electric Railway, a comedy night in memory of Phil Jerrod, and more.

🎶Gigs: Ellie Gowers (Ed: Warwickshire represent!) is at The Folklore Rooms on Sunday, touring her 2022 debut album Dwelling by the Weir which explores folklore, stories, and the people that made her home county what it is today (tickets); also on Sunday, but at Chalk, is Texan post-rock band This Will Destroy You—early doors on this one (tickets); James Holden is at Komedia on Tuesday, in celebration of his brand new album Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities—the DJ, producer and record label founder's 20+ year career has seen him cover IDM, trance, progressive, and minimal techno to name but a few subgenres (tickets);

🎭Festival: In the eternal words of Craig David and Big Narstie's 2015 seminal anthem 'When The Bassline Drops', 'large up the ravers around the town' (Ed: reckon you know all the words?) That is to say, EDM festival Boundary is back tomorrow at Stanmer Park, with Sub Focus, Pendulum, Hedex, Jyoty and Kurupt FM headlining. When the bassline drops, you know what to do (go and buy a ticket, is what do to).

🤣Comedy: Tickets are still available for An Evening of Comedy in memory of Phil Jerrod, who died two years ago on the night of the event from spindle sell sarcoma, and in aid of Sarcoma UK. The event, on Tuesday, is at Brighton Dome, and comedians include Jack Dee, Romesh Ranganathan, and Suzi Ruffell. Tickets are on sale here.

🚲Bike tours: As part of the Ageing Well Festival, which starts today and runs until Friday 13th October, a series of guided bike tours are being held across the city, organised by Brighton Bike Hub: one is a city tour around central Brighton & Hove and seafront, and one is a coastal tour to Rottingdean. 🚋Volk's Electric Railway: Our favourite heritage railway closes for the season this weekend. Its last official day is tomorrow, but Volk's Electric Railway Association (VERA) volunteers are running it on Sunday too. So you have until Sunday evening to get one last ride in!

🍱Food: Lucky Cat have a really good vegan egg mayo sandwich in Infinity Foods, which we really liked! Also Trading Post have changed their menu: RIP to the scrambled tofu, but they have some tasty new additions.

🍺Drink: We've tried and tested many a pint recently, and we can confirm that The Lord Nelson still does the best Guinness in the city. Reckon you've found a better one? Let us know!
