Seagull Recommends 01/12
All the top events from across the city.
Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! Proper cold now, innit? Seagull's big recommendation is that you get yourself a turtleneck—our editor got herself one this week for the first time, and thinks they're revolutionary. It's like wearing a scarf but it's attached to your top!
Also, happy Advent! Seagull Towers has already got its tree up, the organised among you will have got all your presents ready—but most of the rest of us will be doing so in the next few weeks. Remember to try and support local Brighton businesses—North Laine alone has enough places you can find a gift for anyone!
This week we've got a Christmas market, a gig tonight, and a sober comedy show. Enjoy!
If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!
Seagull Recommends
🎶Gigs: Friend of The Seagull Shonalika has a gig tonight at The Pipeline, alongside Dog of Man, Barelife, and Tumen Gaur. Shonalika's self-written and self-produced debut EP, XXX, is ridiculously good—they're so unbelievably talented, and if you get a chance to see them in these intimate venues before they blow up, you should consider yourself incredibly lucky. The definition of star potential (tickets (only three left!)).
🤣Comedy: Stand Up Sober is presenting a special Christmas comedy showcase on Wednesday! Host Ali Jay will be joined by graduates from the Stand Up Sober LGBTQ+ comedy course, alongside a special guest… The event will be raising funds for the Ledward Centre (where it will also be held!). You might recognise a member of Team Seagull on the stage… (tickets).
🎄Christmas market: Next week, Community Base is holding a Christmas Market, and we're very excited for it. From 4-7pm, you can find the perfect presents for your loved ones and support local makers and charities at the same time. Whether it's handmade gifts, seasonal food, live music or beautiful decorations, the Community Base Christmas Market is the perfect place to find something special and get into the festive spirit! There's a book signing from Julia Donaldson from 4-5:30pm, and from 6:30-7pm, a performance from local choir The Dulcetones. Entry is free, but reserve a ticket here if you can.
🍱Food: If you haven't already visited Restaurants Brighton's #1 'Plant Champion', Bonsai Plant Kitchen, you'd better have a good excuse. They have a Friday lunch deal, which just so happens to include all of our favourite items from their menu. From 12-2pm, you can choose a boncho grilled skewer, rice and bánh mì slider, for £15. They always have incredible specials too, it's become our editor and political editor's favourite place to go for an occasion.
🍻Drink: Get down to The Pipeline before the gig to support the venue!
