Seagull Recommends
🎶Gigs: Snõõper began as a collaboration between Nashville punk Connor Cummins, and animator Blair Tramel and they’ll be at Dust this Thursday, expect puppets, 8-bit animation, papier-mâché and so much more (tickets); Deadletter are doing a performance and signing at Resident on Friday evening to celebrate their debut album, Hysterical Strength (tickets); Searows, the solo project of Alec Duckart, is at Chalk on Saturday, our friends have been nagging at us to go and see him for weeks (tickets).
💿Music: Local singer Ocarina has a new song out at midnight! It’s called ‘Wet Clothes’, and it’s all about learning to sit with and accept difficult emotions. Very excited to hear it!
🪩Club night: Brat Summer might have been declared over, but it lives on in our hearts and in our club nights, because when I go to the club I want to hear those club classics, club classics, club club classics. Come and live that life Von Dutch and dance to Charli, A.G., SOPHIE, George, and HudMo at Chalk on Saturday night (tickets).
🎭Theatre: The Three Inch Fools theatre company returns to Brighton Open Air Theatre with The Comedy Of Errors. With musical instruments in hand, the troupe of four are performing Shakespeare’s shortest comedy as they try to untangle a mess of twins and chaos (tickets).
🤣Comedy: Forge Comedy Club returns to Ironworks Studios, with comedy from Dan Jones, Kate Martin, CK Nath, Alex Kitson and Lauren Pattison on Friday (tickets), and Stephen Grant, Lauren Pattison, Caroline Mabey and Mike Gunn on Saturday (tickets).
🏺Pottery: We’ve recommended a lot of pottery nights recently, nice to see how many are popping up in the city—this is Pottery & Pints, which aims to turn the idea of traditional pottery workshops on its head, bringing something special in the relaxed and informal atmosphere of the local pub—in this instance, it's the Ancient Mariner. Your first drink is included in the ticket price, and there’s lots of time to chat and socialise while waiting for your turn at the wheel! Booking essential (tickets).
🏳️🌈Ledward Centre: The Ledward Centre is starting a group for gay men over the age of 50. The inaugural meeting is this Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, to discuss what people want from the group: ”You tell us and we’ll make it happen.”
🎨Life drawing: The Black Dove is hosting a relaxation life drawing night on Wednesday. All abilities welcome, with a mixture of short and long dynamic poses. It’s run by Letgo Life Drawing, who aim to provide ‘a natural way of practising mindfulness’.
🍱Food and drink: Friends of The Seagull, Ruth and James, have some recommendations for eating out. On Tookta’s Thai Food, James said:
I went there recently, very sweet, run by a couple—very tasty Thai, all like cooked to order and very sweet small restaurant vibes, good date night spot I reckon and the couple were very sweet.
