Seagull Recommends 16/09
All the top events from across the city.
Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! A band our editor loves, Welly, is in Brighton today but it's for a freshers event. She's very sad. So sad that she's considering going to Lewes to see them at the end of the month instead...
She's also trying out Beach Box Spa's sauna today: we'll report back!
If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!

🌊Martha Gunn: The Martha Gunn Trust has now been set up, and the group behind it, Celebrate Brighton's Martha Gunn, is looking to raise money to commemorate her. Martha Gunn, a woman from the 1700s who set up a successful business dipping people into the Brighton sea to improve their health. There's a meeting for people interested in finding out more this Tuesday, at The Sussex Arms, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
☕️Drink: We recommend hitting up Alcampo Lounge's LGBTQ+ coffee morning on Saturday from 11am, where this week's theme is 'how to recognise the ones that got away'.
🍱Food: Friends of The Seagull, James and Laurel, visited Brighton last week and went to, among other places, Cibo Italiano on Western Road:
So first of all they were super accommodating when we let them know we were running a bit late, the staff were so friendly, and the food was just amazing. The classic Italian recipes were really well done and they had some of the more traditional Italian recipes which you don't often see.
On request they can make any of the pasta dishes gluten free which is a huge win for us!
We shared a starter of a burrata caprese which was so fresh and well presented. For a main Laurel had the penne al fileto, and I had the penne all puttanesca, both of which were amazing, I don't think I've tried capers before and that was just a cracking way to try them!
Then for dessert we shared a tiramisu, and oh my gosh let me tell you, quite possibly the best one I've ever had, unlike most tiramisu it was quite subtle in the liquor, giving it a much lighter and sweeter way to finish off the meal!
