Seagull Recommends
🎶Gigs: Keep the St Patrick's Day spirit going into the week with trad music at The Fiddler's Elbow, from 8pm; the incomporable Marika Hackman is at Concorde 2 tonight and the fact that this show hasn't sold out is mind-boggling to us (tickets); Maggie Rogers is at Chalk on Wednesday touring her beautiful new album, Don't Forget Me (tickets); we'd be terrible people if we didn't mention The Gulls' upcoming gig (they have a really excellent logo), this Friday at The Prince Albert (tickets).
🎪Cabaret: Beginning as a Brighton Fringe event, the Cabaret of Queeriosities is here to stay as R-Bar celebrate Brighton’s best drag talent. On Friday at 7:30pm or Sunday at 7pm, expect an evening of drag excellence and 50% off drinks until 8pm.
🎬Film: Electric Blue, an experimental screening space at The Rose Hill dedicated to presenting avant-garde cinema and unusual relics, is showing Mikey and Nicky tomorrow (Tuesday). Directed by Elaine May, Mikey and Nicky is a harrowing crime drama following the trials and turns of a pair of scheming small-time mobsters over the course of a single evening, as they traverse the complexities of their relationship in the mire of its many contradictions (tickets).
🤔Quiz: Think you know everything about Friends? Bison Beach Bar is hosting 'the ultimate test' on the TV show, covering seasons 1-10: quote round, music round, impressions, themed prizes, all the usual quiz antics. Maximum of six people per team, please (tickets)!
🎨Collage Club: A perennial Seagull favourite, Cult Milk's Collage Club returns to The Hope and Ruin this Tuesday. Drop in from 6pm to 9pm, bring some magazines to donate if you can, and unwind and have fun while making a lovely collage. Or a terrifying collage. Up to you, really. Beer prizes available, and entry is free!
🍱Food: Our political editor loves soup. He had some soup this week. Here's whay he had to say about the soup:
It was very nice soup. I want to say it was curried carrot and sweet potato. It hit that sweet spot of being definitely healthy but also very tasty, which is what Iydea does best. I don't remember the bread. I would recommend it.
Drink: Get down to Bison Beach Bar to help celebrate their ninth birthday on Sunday. From 5pm, the team are celebrating with games through the night, pin-the-tail-on-the-Bison, pass the parcel, Bison merch, 'all the beers', a bison cake, and much more. Feeling tender the next day? Join them on Sunday for their birthday hangover hike for a stroll over the Downs, with a hair of the dog treat and more birthday surprises (tickets).
