Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! This week we've got seagulls in music videos, free pizza and more. We also spotted The Big Sleep Out happening tonight outside St Peter's Church—a big shoutout to all those brave souls!

If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!

Seagull Recommends

🎶Gigs: Gemma Rogers, who just released her debut album back in July, has only been on the pop scene for a short time but has already made a big impact. Her clever songwriting and catchy songs have been gaining attention underground, but we're just waiting for her to burst out into the mainstream. She'll be at The Hope and Ruin on Sunday (tickets).

🎶🎥Music videos: We're a longtime fan of singer songwriter Gecko, whose latest music video features our lovely city! Starring a particularly good seagull.

🎄Christmas: The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed a big wheel going up in Valley Gardens, alongside some wooden huts in front of St Peter's Church—that's right, the Christmas market is back but this year it's mostly on hard ground (so the gardens won't be as ruined as last year) and we've also heard that it won't be gated off, making for a much more Christmassy, open market feel. It opens tonight!

🍕Free pizza: Fatto a Mano on London Road is giving out free pizza from midday on Monday, to celebrate their original pizzeria being open again seven days a week! They'll be serving up margheritas, vegan margheritas and salsiccia e friarielli while dough lasts, latest 8pm.

🍱Food: You can't beat Brighton original Bagelman, the unofficial sponsors of our Seagull meetings. Our team's favourites are as follows:

  • A vegan BLT on poppy, no tomato for Adam
  • A halloumi special on plain with mayo instead of chipotle for Owen
  • A vegan feast on onion with sweet chilli for CM
  • Something ridiculous for Xav

There's enough choice in the menu to satisfy all tastes, sweet or savoury—and if nothing takes your fancy you can customise your own bagel!

Talk of the Town

The Seagull's resident socialite Eustice Gully enjoys Projects' Lanes launch party

Team Seagull were delighted to attend the glitzy launch party for Projects' delightful new Lanes site at Nile House last night. The evening was billed as one of "sensory experiences"—our noses were abuzz in Senses By Sim's aromatherapy room; long queues prevented our getting into the laser maze, but reports from those who did said it was splendid; and the food and drinks (courtesy of Rich Earth and The Spirit Level respectively) were simply fabulous. We weren't the only ones who enjoyed them—one Youtube star was spotted double-dipping on the prosecco—and the whole event had a marvellous buzz to it. Congratulations to the whole Projects team and all who were involved on a superb night, and particular congratulations to our editor for enjoying herself so much she managed to roll her ankle on the way out.
