Hello and welcome back to Seagull Recommends! This week we've got picket lines, theatre tours, and more. If you come across anything coming up in the city that you think we should know about, let us know!

Seagull Recommends

🎶Gigs: Synthpop band Hot Chip (the band whose name is based on quite a stupid joke, if you can even call it that), will be at Chalk tonight (tickets); indie rock SUPERMILK aka Jake Popyura (and friends) will bring a very honest, raw, beautifully harmonised set to The Hope and Ruin on Thursday, also their first ever gig in the city and it's free, free! No tickets needed! Also Aitch is at Chalk on Friday night—needs no further explanation, everyone knows Aitch (this is a very fun video to learn more if you don't that will do a better job than we can) (tickets).

🎭Theatre: From Saturday 20th to Saturday 27th August, see the Theatre Royal like you've never seen it before. Guided tours of the building will be running all week, allowing visitors to step onto the stage, see the Royal Box and find out more about the grade II listed theatre's 200-year-old history. Tickets are available here.

🚩Picket lines: Royal Mail workers in the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have voted for strike action over pay, and will be striking on Friday 26th August, Wednesday 31st August, Thursday 8th September and Friday 9th September. There will be pickets in North Road, Foundry Street and Gloucester Road running from 5am on those days. Get down there if you can and support the strikers!

🍱Food and drink: Just off Preston Circus, The Green Kitchen is a little out of the way but well worth the journey—however far you’re coming. A wholly vegan menu with several ingredients (like their delicious vegan bacon) made in-house (also available at crunchier local food stores), you’ll end up making repeat visits to try everything! We’d recommend everything, but especially The Great on an empty stomach, avocado toast, pancakes or their BLAST baguette.
