Seagull Recommends
🎶Gigs: Macie Stewart is at The Folklore Rooms on Thursday touring their debut album, Mouth Full of Glass, exploring loneliness, and the growth and beauty that comes from it (tickets).
🤣Comedy: Bank Holiday special at Forge Comedy Club this Sunday—based at Ironworks Studios, there's comedy from Stephen Grant, Kate Barron, James Ellis and Mike Gunn. Doors at 6:30pm, show at 8pm, pizza from Pizzaface (tickets).
🚶Walk: Andrew from Sussex Radical History is putting on another Subversive Sussex Walk for Transform Brighton and Hove tomorrow! Discover the underdog history of Brighton with a radical ramble around the city centre, and hear the history of how local people fought back: squatting, strikes, rebellions, mutiny, sabotage, and smuggling. Team Seagull have been on this walking tour before, and highly, highly recommend it. Tickets are free with a suggested donation of £5.
Quiz: The Young Unite Network are holding a quiz at The Actors on Monday! You don't need to be a member to attend, it's free to play, and it's LGBT+ and trade union themed. Starts at 7pm!
🎨Art: A Queer Tapestry Exhibition by Tony Mentel has opened at The Queery, and will be there for the rest of August. Some beautiful mixed-media pieces!
🧑🏫Uniform: It's nearly time to go back to school, and Smarter Uniforms are giving away free school uniforms to those who need them. They will be at Whitehawk Library every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm to 4pm until September 7th, for free school uniforms and any assistance they can give.
🍽️Cafe: There's a lovely café down at the Volk's Electric Railway called Milkbar and it's genuinely delightful: delicious coffee, locally-sourced apple juice, ice cream and snacks, toasties, incredible flapjacks made by a woman who ran the marathon—perfect for a pre-train snack.
🍛Lunch: Trading Post is a Team Seagull staple to visit, but especially the one in Kensington Gardens. We recommend the scrambled tofu!
☕️Coffee: We've been loving Skylark Coffee, who are a 100% non-profit specialty roaster in the city. All their coffee is ethically sourced, and supports social and environmental projects in the UK as well as overseas. They'll be in Gloucester Place on Thursday evening from 6-8pm, but normally you can find their coffee inside One Church on Florence Road, as Florence Road Cafe. We love their Colombia Argelia Decaf, with notes of maple syrup, plum preserve and cherry cola!
